We have been “meeting” together virtually for three months now and over the last few weeks the Wardens and I have been seeking and receiving feedback from you about how to move forward from here.
I have recorded a video outlining our ideas for a new pattern for “Church” worship – not set in stone, nothing can be in this strange world – but a pattern for now. Alongside, Tom and Lou are planning to continue to be Live in the Lounge each Sunday morning (and my heartfelt thanks to them for delivering Sunday by Sunday a popular and highly accessible worship session).
On Sundays, we will invite a Home Group to create a service on the First Sunday. Every other month, on the last Sunday of the month, we aim to offer a combined service working with Tom and Lou. On the remaining Sundays, there will be a mix of more traditional (once a month, often on the 3rd Sunday) and more informal (the other Sundays). One service per month will be a Communion service but not according to a fixed pattern.
We are also going to start a new Sermon series from this Sunday (21st) based on the Patriarchs from the book of Genesis – what do their stories have to say to us today? As an additional activity, we are offering what you might call a whole-church Bible Study on the Genesis passage, each Sunday at 6:30, via ZOOM (normal address: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/2907979571). In this session, the morning preacher or I will dig deeper into the passage, which we will discuss together. This is not a service as such: short prayers, reading the passage and studying God’s word together. All are welcome.
We will continue with Morning Prayer for the foreseeable future: on Tuesdays, weather permitting, outside, at the Kelsale Lych Gate for as many as Boris will allow from-time-to-time (currently a max of 6) and also on Thursdays via ZOOM.
If you have any questions or comments, we are still open to feedback. In the meantime, my thanks to those who have been bringing us such worshipful variety! Nic (nic@saxstjohns.org.uk)
